Red ruffed lemurs are one of the biggest primates living on Madagascar. Red ruffed lemurs have six bottom teeth known as a tooth comb. These animals differ greatly from all other types of lemur. They can be found in the forests of the Masoala Peninsula near Maroantsetra. The black and white ruffed lemur and the red ruffed lemur are very similar but differ in coloration as suggested by their names. Red ruffed lemurs are only protected within the boundaries of the Masoala National Park.

They also have been spotted to the east of the Antainambalana River which divides their range from the range of black and white-ruffed lemurs. Red Ruffed Lemur This is a medium-sized lemur that is very different socially and prefers isolation. It features a very different physical appearance and behaviour from other lemurs.
